Fuel Tank Ventilation

N80
A charcoal canister frequency valve is used to regulate the amount of fuel vapors entering the intake manifold. The frequency valve is located next to the fuel filter on the right side of the engine compartment.

Vapors from the fuel tank are collected in the carbon canister. The charcoal canister is located at the right 'A' pillar behind the fender.
N80
The frequency valve operates on a pulsed voltage (duty cycle) from the MPI control unit. The duty cycle will vary depending on the engine temperature, engine load, and speed.
N80
Substitute Function

If the wiring to the frequency valve is interrupted, the valve will close.

Self-diagnosis detects the following conditions:
  • Open circuit/short to earth
  • Short circuit to positive
