There were two versions of the oil filter for the 12v V6 -- one for the AAH version of the engine, and one for the AAH/AFC and AFC versions. It is important that you use the proper oil filter for your engine! Though it is physically possible to use the wrong oil filter, the later oil circulation system operates differently than the earlier one and the larger filter will not maintain the proper oil pressure in an AAH engine.
  • Coupe
    • If your VIN ends in 8B_S_000544 or earlier, you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
    • If your VIN ends in 8B_S_000545 or later, you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
  • Cabriolet
    • If your VIN ends in 8G_S_001302 or earlier, you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
    • If your VIN ends in 8G_S_001303 or later, you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
  • 80/90
    • If your VIN ends in 8C_S_025820 or earlier, you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
    • If your VIN ends in 8C_S_025821 or later, you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
  • 100
    • US/Canada: you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
    • European models, VIN ending in 4A_S_026713 or earlier: you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
    • European models, VIN ending in 4A_S_026714 or later: you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
  • A4
    • You need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
  • A6
    • US/Canada: you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
    • European models, VIN ending in 4A_S_026713 or earlier: you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
    • European models, VIN ending in 4A_S_026714 or later: you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.
